In her first two seasons as head coach of the Yale women's tennis team Danielle Lund McNamara has led the Bulldogs to a 13-1 Ivy League record (22-16 overall), a league title and an NCAA selection.
After serving as assistant at Yale for the 2005-06 season, Lund McNamara coached the Blue to an 11-8 (6-1 Ivy), second-place Ivy finish and a No. 67 ranking in 2006-07. Her Elis improved to a perfect, 7-0 Ivy season in 2007-08 while going 11-8 again.
Lund McNamara brought a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach to New Haven. Prior to Yale, she was the Assistant Head Pro at Orchard Hills Athletic Club in Lancaster, Mass., where she coached several nationally ranked junior players who have earned tennis scholarships to major Division I schools. She was also the assistant coach of the women's tennis team at the University of Michigan from 2001-2002 and led the team to a national ranking of #39 and 2nd place finish in the Big Ten. In addition, Lund McNamara served as a volunteer coach at Boston University and was the Director of the Nike Tournament Training Camp at Mount Holyoke College from 2003-2005.
She received a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. in Organizational Studies from the University of Michigan in 2001, earning the Michigan Athletic Department's Academic Achievement Award and the Donald R. Shepherd endowed scholarship for academic and athletic success. While a player at Michigan, Lund McNamara was nationally ranked as high as #28 in singles and #7 in doubles. She is the only player in Michigan history to ever qualify for all three Grand Slam collegiate events (All-American, National Indoors and the NCAA Championships). She helped the team to its first Big Ten Championship in 1997, captained the team as a junior and senior, was All-Big Ten in 1999 and was the Big Ten Sportswoman of the Year in 2001. Following college, Lund McNamara played professionally for one year before joining the Orchard Hills staff and earned a WTA world ranking in singles and doubles.
