NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The scoreboard operator at Dewitt Family Field could be busy on Wednesday afternoon when Wagner and Yale meet in a doubleheader. The Seahawks are batting .328 and have hit 28 home runs. The Bulldogs, though, hit three of their nine home runs on the season in a 14-4 win over Wagner on March. 15 at the Rebel Games in Florida. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 3:30 p.m., and fans can follow the action on GameTracker on yalebulldogs.com.
Megan Enyeart, Allie Canulli and Nicole Wolfe all homered in the first game. That was the second half of a big offensive performance for the Bulldogs, who beat Siena 22-4 earlier that day.
Yale (16-23-1) had two players - Holly Gutterud and Katie Yanagisawa - named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Tuesday. Gutterud batted .500 (7-for-14) with seven RBI and two runs scored in last weekend's four-game series with Dartmouth. She also pitched 3.1 innings of relief. Yanagisawa, who has a five-game hitting streak, hit .350 (7-for-20), scored eight runs, knocked in four runs and was 4-for-4 on stolen bases in six games last week.
Wagner (23-16, 10-6 NEC) has won 10 of its last 12 games. The Seahawks top three hitters - Andrea Lazzari, Katie Stevens and Victoria Batistelli - have combined for 140 hits, 17 home runs and 106 RBI. Lazzari is hitting .430, while Stevens has a .423 average. Kate Eshelman has started 15 games in the circle and leads Wagner's pitching staff in ERA (2.95), wins (7) and strikeouts (39).
The Seahawks swept a doubleheader from Yale last year on Staten Island, winning the first game 8-1 and taking the nightcap 7-4.
