NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale's doubleheader with Stony Brook, scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m., has been postponed because of rain. The two teams will try to play the doubleheader on Thursday, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Dewitt Family Field. One player anxious for the rain to end is Aracelis Torres. She was named the Ivy League Player of the Week on Wednesday morning after batting .400 (10-for-25) in eight games last week.
Torres knocked in 10 runs and had three doubles as the Bulldogs won seven of eight games. Her biggest hit was a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Bulldogs rallied to edge Iona 2-1. She had three of Yale's four hits in that game. Against Florida A&M, Torres had a bases-clearing double that helped lead to a 9-0 victory, and in a 22-4 win over Siena, she was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.
Two other Bulldogs were recognized by the league. KR Ling, who pitched 12.2 innings without allowing an earned run, and Katie Yanagisawa, who batted .278 (5-for-18) in eight games, were both named to the Honor Roll.
Yale (8-4) has won four straight games, outscoring its opponents 47-9 during the streak.
Stony Brook brings a 6-6-1 overall record to New Haven. The Seawolves rallied from a 5-2 deficit to defeat Monmouth 8-5 on Tuesday. The second game ended due to darkness in the fifth inning with the score tied at 2-2. Stony Brook has six players batting .300 or better led by Marissa Fleury at .390. Alyssa Struzenberg anchors the Seawolves' pitching staff. She is 5-0 with a 2.07 earned run average.
