NEW HAVEN, Conn. - With a No. 2 ranking and a number of strong performances, the Bulldog sailors are off to a strong start, but the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy hosted by Brown this Saturday and Sunday provides the team a good opportunity to get back into action after a one-week break from intersectional competition.
Although there was not a women's intersectional last weekend, the Bulldogs did show their versatility by putting in strong performances for the co-ed sailing team. Junior Jane Macky and sophomore Marla Menninger led that team to an Ivy League Championship and overall victory at the Owen and Mosbacher-Knapp Trophies, while junior Kate Hagemann and freshman Elizabeth Brim helped the co-ed squad win the Boston Dinghy Club Cup.
This Saturday and Sunday, however, the team is back competing against the top women's sailors, facing eight of the top 10 teams in the nation -- including No. 1 St. Mary's. The Bulldogs lost to the Seahawks by just three points at the last women's intersectional, which was held at St. Mary's home site.
The Bulldogs have a strong history at the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy, placing fourth in 2007 and third in 2006. While only Macky has previously sailed at the event, as a crew in 2007, the team has performed well at most women's intersectionals this year despite not previously competing at them with the same sailors.
