NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Strong winds did not hold the No. 2 Bulldogs back from achieving 10 strong, top five finishes in their sixth-place finish at the Brad Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy hosted by Brown on Saturday and Sunday. The Bulldogs finished the regatta with 189 points in the 12 races over two days.
The team's performance was highlighted by the second place, 66 point performance in B Division. The team of junior skipper Kate Hagemann and crews sophomore Rebecca Jackson and freshman Elizabeth Brim finished in the top five in eight of the 12 races, including three wins. The team was winning B Division after the first day, but ended up finishing behind the squad from No. 1 St. Mary's.
The A Division team did not enjoy the same success as B Division, however. The Bulldogs placed 12th in A Division with 123 points. Sailing for the Bulldogs were junior Jane Macky and sophomore Marla Menninger.
On Saturday, the conditions were challenging for many competitors, with the strong winds of up to 20 knots causing many capsizes. On Sunday, the wind was lighter at between two and 10 knots.
The team actually had the same number of points as No. 3 Stanford in both A and B Divisions and overall, but lost the tie breaker in both the overall and A Division standings.
The team will next compete on Saturday and Sunday at the 40th Women's President's Trophy Intersectional hosted by Boston University.
