Germany Journal-Day One/Two

The Yale women's basketball team is currently on a ten-day tour of Germany. Team members will be providing journals chronicling their experiences throughout the trip. In the first installment, team captain Chinenye Okafor describes the Bulldogs' travels from the U.S. (sort of) and their first day in Munich.

Oh man, we started off the trip traveling for like 12 hours. First we went from Boston to Paris. That flight was around 6 hours. I would elaborate more, but I slept the whole way (except for 5-10 minutes when they food was served--I made sure teammates woke me up for that). Then we were in the Paris airport for quite a bit. It would have been nice to go out in the city, but due to time required going through customs, we stayed in the airport and some of us passed out covering our eyes with the little nighty things they had gave us on the airplane, while the rest of us read, pretended to read and understand French newspapers and magazines--when not even knowing a word of French--and the rest, searching for food and coming to the conclusion of why French people are skinny--because there is no food to eat (at least in any suitable sizeable amount that is).

After Paris, it was off finally to Germany. It was around two hours, and again, I slept the whole way, so no stories there. After arriving in Germany, we got our luggage and met our wonderful Tour Guide, Robert! We loaded on a Coach Bus and started the 1.5 hour trip/mini tour to our hotel in the city of Munich. I hate to say it, but I slept throughout this trip too. Sorry! I was tired! Once arriving at our hotel, some went out and explored the city of Munich in the time we had before departing for dinner, and yes, I slept. Man, I'm realizing I slept a lot the first day... Anyways, I was WIDE awake for dinner!

Dinner was at the Hofbrauhaus, a world-famous Beer Hall. It was really fun. It was buffet style, and there was either a really loud lady singing in I think traditional German folklore, or three men dressed in traditional German attire playing instruments the whoooooole night. It was great. I ate some delicious sausage, chicken, potatoes, and some not so delicious pork knuckle. YES. The KNUCKLE of a pig, I didn't know that before I tried it though. It was interesting. After dinner, and after asking several people where a good dance hall was, some of us ventured to the Atomic Café for some dancing, and the rest of us for more food/dessert. LOL. Yeah, you probably guessed it; I was in the second group. OK, well that was day one of our trip!!! Stay tuned for more submissions/recap of our trip from my teammates!!!!

DJ Okafor signing off!!

Holla! Rolla!!
