NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Sophomore guard/forward Melissa Colborne had arguably the best weekend of her career against Cornell and Columbia, averaging 21 points, four rebounds and five assists. Her performances were recognized by the Ivy League on Monday when she was rewarded with Player of the Week honors for the third time this season. Colborne, who was also honored on Dec. 10 and Jan. 7, shared this week's award with Harvard's Katie Rollins.
Colborne had back-to-back 20-point games for the first time in her career, posting 22 points against the Big Red and 20 Saturday night against the Lions. She shot .727 (16-of-22) from the field on the weekend, going 8-for-11 in both games. Colborne also set a career-high with six assists and tied a career best with three blocks in the win over Columbia.
For the season, she leads the Bulldogs and ranks second in the Ivy League in scoring (15.7 ppg). Colborne is the Ivy's top scorer in conference games, averaging 16.3 points. She is also third in the league in field goal percentage (.470) and fifth in free throw percentage (.737).
The Ivy League also selected Co-Rookies of the Week--Dartmouth's Brittney Smith and Penn's Kim Adams. This is the first time in League history that four different players received the weekly awards in the same week.
This weekend, the Bulldogs (7-16, 5-5 Ivy) hit the road for the final time this season. Yale heads to Penn (4-20, 1-8 Ivy) Friday at 7 p.m. before visiting Princeton (5-20, 2-7 Ivy) Saturday at 6 p.m.
