After sending some athletes to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia earlier this week, the Bulldogs returned home to host the Yale Springtime Invitational at the Dwyer Track/Cuyler Field complex, which will also be the site of this year's Heptagonal Championships. Despite competing with an incomplete squad, Yale was a dominant presence at the meet, winning two events and earning fourteen top-five finishes at the meet. The team of senior Matt Bordoni, junior Jared Bell, junior Jake Gallagher and sophomore Chris Labosky cruised to victory in the second section of the 4x800-meter relay, winning with a time of 7:31.74.
On the second day of the Penn Relays, Yale sent a number of relays in addition to a few select field competitors. The field events were a source of success for the Bulldogs, as junior Jeffrey Lachman and sophomore Eric Depalo gave convincing performances in their respective events. Lachman placed fourth in the Championship Discus throw competition with a personal best distance of 52.92m (173-7). The effort moves him up to No. 3 on Yale's all-time performance list, and earns him a spot at the NCAA East regional championships in Tallahassee, Fla. next month. Depalo Won His Flight of the pole vault with a height of 5.00m (16'4.75"), well surpassing the IC4A-qualifying mark of 4.80m, but missing the NCAA regional-qualifying mark (5.05m) by a mere 5 centimeters.

At the annual Yale-Harvard dual meet, hosted by Yale this year, the Bulldogs left no doubt that they deserved the win. In fact, Yale dominated Harvard from start to finish, winning 14 out of 19 events, and sweeping four. Under sunny skies, the Bulldogs had good enough conditions (despite some inconvenient wind) to give many convincing performances. The story of the day was senior Victor Cheng's spectacular time of 10.49 in the 100-meter dash, which qualifies him for the NCAA East-Regional meet next month. Despite eclipsing the school-record time of 10.61, however, Cheng's mark is ineligible for the official school record because the tailwind surpassed the limit of 2.0 for the wind index. Not easily disheartened, Yale went on to win the meet with 112 points to Harvard's 50.

Despite the loss of the Bulldogs' usual depth across all events due to the team split, Yale still managed a strong fourth place finish at the Colonial Relays in a field of twenty teams, finishing the meet with 53 points.
