Before Yale: Named to the NSCAA High School Boys All-Region IV team as a senior at Western Reserve Academy... Selected as the Tri-County League MVP... Earned first team all-state honors... Scored 32 goals and added 13 assists... Western Reserve shared the league championship, had a final record of 19-1-1 and was undefeated in Ohio... Team captain as a senior... Received the school's Gold Medal for Soccer... Played for the Everest club team.
"I think Yale will be the perfect balance between academics and athletics," Shorten said. "It will be challenging, however the players and coaches seem to understand that there is life beyond soccer. Also all the coaches and players are great guys, and I can't ask for much else."
