Miller earned first team All-Ivy and second team All-New England honors after starting all 18 games last fall and helping to anchor a defense that allowed just 16 goals. He also scored two goals and both came in a 6-2 victory over Rhode Island. At the Dartmouth Classic, Miller was named the Co-Defensive MVP, and he also was named to the all-tournament team at the Yale Classic. In addition, he was an Academic All-Ivy selection and at the team's post season banquet he was the recipient of the Walter McNerney Trophy as Yale's most valuable player. As a sophomore, Miller was the recipient of the Frank Dunne Award as Yale's Most Improved Player. After appearing in only three games as a freshman, he started all 17 games in 2004. His two goals came against Clemson and SMU. He was named to the all-tournament team at the Brown Classic. At Terra Linda High School he was a three-year captain and helped lead his squad to the North Coast Section and Marin County Athletic League playoff championships in 2002 and the MCAL championship in 2000 and 2001. Miller was honored as the MCAL player of the year in 2002 and was a three-time first team all-league selection. He also participated in the Cal North State Team Olympic Development Program. His club team, Marin United, won the state cup in 2003 and Nomads tournament (premier) in 2002 and was runner-up in the under-18 national championship in 2003.
