Hills has appeared in every game since arriving at Yale and is one of the team's top scoring threats. Last fall he earned second team All-Ivy honors after finishing second on the team in points with 10 (4 goals, 2 assists). Two of his goals were game-winners, including the only goal in the victory at Princeton that clinched a share of the Ivy League title. Two days later, he was named the Ivy League Player of the Week. He also scored Yale's goal against Stony Brook in the first round of the NCAA College Cup. As a sophomore, Hills tied for the team lead in assists with four and was third in goals (4) and points (12). He had a pair of two-goal games, against Fairfield and Sacred Heart. He also added two assists against Sacred Heart. In his rookie year, Hills was one of only two freshmen to appear in all 17 games. His first career goal was the game-winner in a victory at Quinnipiac. He also had an assist in the win over Princeton. At the University School he was a two-time All-American and also was a two-time league most valuable player. In his senior year, he set a school record by scoring 49 goals. In 2003, his club team, Marin United, reached the finals of the Under-18 National Youth Soccer Championship. Hills scored three goals and added two assists in the four-game championship tournament. His father, Leighton, is a 1976 graduate of Yale and was a swimmer.
