Forward Michael Karwoski and goalie Alec Richards shared the team rookie of the year award on Monday night at the Golf Course at Yale during the 2005-06 Yale Men's Hockey Banquet.
Karwoski, who had four goals and 17 points, and Richards, who earned numerous ECACHL Rookie of the Week honors and was in goal for eight of the 10 Bulldog victories, shared the Martin Dwyer III Award.
Jeff Hristovski, one of 10 seniors honored at the dinner, was named the winner of the J. Murray Murdoch Award for the team's most valuable player. Hristovski, who tied Jeff Hamilton's school record of 125 career games played, led the team with 15 assists and 25 points.
Other recipients included Bill LeClerc (John Poinier Award for best defensive player), Chris Brooks (Yale Hockey Coaches Award for morale and spirit), Joe Zappala (David C. Noyes III Award for performance and attitude), Zachary Mayer (Edward M Wright, M.D. Award for athletic and academic accomplishments) and Christian Jensen (Malcolm G. Chace Award for sportsmanship, spirit and ability).
Coach Tim Taylor did a wonderful job planning the event along with the Yale Hockey Association. Outgoing YHA president Greg Wiber '74 and new leader Billy Matthews '90 ended the evening with a well-deserved toast to Taylor and his 30-years of outstanding service to Yale and its hockey program. Both Christian Jensen, captain of the 2005-06 Bulldogs, and new captain Matthew Cohen thanked Taylor for his leadership, knowledge and character during their time at the podium.
