SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Yale's 1V closed out its three-day trip to San Diego, Calif., with a tough seventh-place finish in an extremely competitive grand final at the San Diego Crew Classic. Defending IRA national champions Washington won the Copley Cup for the fourteenth time (a regatta record) with a comfortable margin of 1.9 seconds. It was a disappointing finish for the Bulldogs, who after yesterday's performance seemed well poised for a top-three finish.

In the grand final, the varsity boat finished last behind two crews it had beaten in its preliminary heat the day before. Princeton's finish was perhaps the most surprising. After finishing fourth in yesterday's prelim and beating out Syracuse for the last spot in the grand final, the Tigers took second place in the event. Harvard followed them in third.
