NEW HAVEN, Conn.--After his dominant one-run, two-hit performance against Wofford on Sunday, Yale junior right-hander Brandon Josselyn has been named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week. Josselyn threw a seven-inning complete game in the 5-1 victory that snapped a four-game losing streak. It was also Josselyn's first win of the year.
He gave up a run and two hits in the first inning, but that was all. Josselyn no-hit the Terriers the rest of the way, allowing just two more base runners. After Wofford's Josh McKinney reached on an error to open the bottom of the second, Josselyn retired the next 10 Terriers in a row before walking Jake Williams with one out in the fifth. Williams was the last Terrier to reach base, as Josselyn ended the game by sending down the last eight Wofford batters in order. Josselyn struck out four and walked one in the game.
Josselyn is the second Bulldog in as many weeks to be honored by the Ivy League. Ryan Lavarnway was named Player of the Week last week. He is the first Yale pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Week honors since Alec Smith shared the award on April 11, 2006.
Yale's game at Presbyterian originally scheduled for Wednesday has been moved to Thursday at 2 p.m. because of the threat of rain. The Bulldogs conclude their 16-game Spring Break road trip with a three-game series at Radford (9-8) on Friday and Saturday.
