GRAD-PRO
SUMMER SOFTBALL '07: LEAGUE NOTES
Welcome
to the 2008 version of Grad-Pro Summer Softball. After you read this information please check
the schedule to ensure your name/phone and the team's name is correct. Please e-mail corrections and changes to karen.parady@yale.edu. Finally,
review all the playing, eligibility and delayed game rules -- there
is new clarification on the coed batting order.
ALL GAMES ARE SCHEDULED TO START AT 5:45 PM unless otherwise prearranged and agreed upon by
opposing captains. Plan your warm-ups well before the scheduled time or inform
you opponents well in advance (at least the day before the game!) of any
potential changes to the starting time.
The procedure for delayed game starts is located in
the ALL Seasons Softball Rules and is enforceable by the captain at the
game site -- no enforcement, no regrets, and please no protests! Cancellations due to threatening weather
conditions are made at the field or prior to the scheduled time of the contest
by the opposing captains. If your team
wishes not to play then the captain must call the opposing captain and the
Intramural Office to concede defeat.
Always assume the game will be played and confirming the status with
your opponent. Games canceled due to
poor weather are not rescheduled by the Intramural Office and thus do not
impact the schedule or deposit fee. However, if teams wish to replay these
games at a later date or to play them as double headers please check with the
Intramural Office at 432-2487 for field availability. Games that are started then delayed and
ultimately canceled due to weather will be considered official after the
completion of one full inning. The 'Mercy Rule' will be in effect for
all games - If, after four full innings a
short-handed team (less than 10 players) is behind by 10 or more runs the game
is stopped and the team ahead in the score is declared the winner.
Teams
must resolve disputes related to the game utilizing the rules provided so captains
please keep a copy with you while at the fields. Any mutually agreed upon alterations or
relaxations are binding and unprotestable. Although
the rules don't cover every situation they help to settle disputes quickly and
often the rules and a little common sense, fair play and good sportsmanship
help to defuse combative situations.
Always keep in mind this activity is intended to be an opportunity for
exercise, enjoyment and socialization.
Nevertheless, aware of the over-competitive nature of some of our
participants we are obligated to remind you that this is ONLY intramural sports
not mortal warfare -- you're only playing for bragging rights and a crummy old
t-shirt!! The 'Mercy Rule' will be in
effect for all games - If, after four
full innings a short-handed team (less than 10 players) is behind by 10 or more
runs the game is stopped and the team ahead in the score is declared the
winner.
Since
all players must be Yale employees, students or spouses/significant others
eligibility challenges must be made at the fields by the captains -- a valid ID
or driver's license are acceptable forms of identification. All players must be listed on your team
roster in the Intramural Office.
Additions and deletions may me made to the roster during the regular
season simply by calling, e-mailing or faxing the name and affiliation of the
person the day before the game they will play.
No additions may be made to the rosters after the last regular season
game. Also be advised all players are
only entitled to participate on only one team in each league. Discovery of the use of ineligible and/or
illegal players results in forfeit and banishment.
All
corecreational teams are scheduled to play seven regular season games. At the conclusion of the regular season all
teams will be ranked based on final game results with strength of wins and
head-to-head contest used to break ties.
The top eight teams will qualify for a single elimination round robin
tournament. The remaining teams will
have the opportunity to play a single "last chance to win" game with
opponents selected based on playing day preferences. Any team forfeiting a game during the regular
season may be banned from post season play.
All
recreational teams are scheduled to play six regular season games with the top
six teams qualifying for the single elimination playoffs. At the conclusion of
the regular season all teams will be ranked based on final game results with
strength of wins and head-to-head contest used to break ties. Any team
forfeiting a game during the regular season may be banned from post season
play.
When
faxing (432-2495) results please indicate the original date of the game, the
final score and winning team on the score sheet. Playoff teams will be determined on all
scores reported on the last Friday of he regular
season. Unreported scores and disputed
games will not be counted. If you do not hear from the Office but think you
qualify please call, we'll be happy to confirm your record and discuss any
tie-breaking procedures used to determine advancing teams. Playoffs dates are
already listed on the schedule so please be prepared to play on the day and
date scheduled.
