Grad-Pro Hoops '05 - League Information
Welcome to the 2005
Grad-Pro Basketball League. This year there are divisions for competitive,
corecreational and recreational play. Captains please read the schedule carefully
-- check for correct team name, department, captain name & phone. If
an 'X' or 'TR' appears under "Deposit" then your team has paid the entry fee.
If not you must pay the fee tonight or before the season starts, otherwise,
your team could be dropped from the league and replace by a waiting list team.
Be advised no games
are postponed due to snow, ice or inclement weather. However, if a winter
storm hits New Haven and road conditions are dangerous and captains decide
not to play the game then the captain must call the opponent as early as possible
to cancel the game and must call the Lanman Center Intramural Office (432-8670)
prior to game time to inform the Weekend Attendant that the teams will not
appear for the contest -- the game is canceled with no registration fee jeopardy,
it is not rescheduled, and it does not impact the final standings.
The courts and times
for the hoop season have been reserved and cannot be altered. So, consider
the regular season schedules 'set-in-stone'. Even if you and your opponent
agree to reschedule your game and play at a different time and place, both
teams will be assessed the forfeit fee regardless of whether or not you the
captain informed the Intramural Office in advance. There may be days when
court locations are changed due to conflicts with other athletic events, however
these changes do not effect game start times. Your team has made a commitment
to participate in the league so please ensure that your team is at the court,
warmed-up and ready to play at the scheduled starting time. If not,
the refere's have been instructed to enforce the Late Policy listed in the
rules. Incidentally, a team can start a game with a minimum of four players
and enter additional players to the score sheet (if they are on the official
roster) throughout the game without penalty. However, using unlisted players
is illegal and if an opponent successfully protests against such a player,
then your team will forfeit the game, be expelled from the league, and lose
its registration deposit. IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. All players must be affiliated
with the Yale University community and be PWG members (all students are in
this category); non-PWG members may pay the daily gymnasium entry fee as guests
of a PWG member but must be affiliated with the Yale community. 2. A player
may be on the roster of only one team in each league (so an individual could
play on a competitive, corecreational and recreational team).
Referees, a game clock,
a ball, game vests and the score sheet will be provided whenever possible.
However, please understand that referees are a luxury and not a guarantee.
We are looking for capable officials and will pay fair wages to students who
work games. Please contact Carlos Pinela at 432-2496 if you are interested
in working. If officials are not assigned to your game then each team may
be required to keep score and time and/or officiate during one half of the
game. Please return all equipment to the referees or the Intramural Attendant
in the Lanman Center office at the conclusion of the game.
We suggest that teams select a T-shirt color and that all teammates try to
wear that color for the game otherwise you are welcome to use the sweaty and
smelly scrimmage vests.
Good sportsmanship
toward teammates, opponents and game officials is essential and expected from
each player and every team. Inappropriate behavior by any one player adversely
affects his/her team. So, captains please utilize all methods to control
the aggression and anger of your players. Fighting with opponents and verbal
and/or physical abuse of players and/or referees will not be tolerated and
will result in suspension, ejection or more severe and appropriate disciplinary
and/or legal action.
Special Notes: It
was impossible to schedule all games on playing day preferences so carefully
review the schedule and note your playing days -- you're expected to make
every effort to play.
Best of luck for a
great season. Please let us know about the great times and the terrible moments.
Competitive League Teams play a six game schedule. The top two teams in each
division qualify for a championship playoff.

in the league qualify for a championship playoff.

Basketball Playoffs
PLAYOFF GAMES BEGIN THE WEEKEND OF FEB. 19TH
FOR COREC AND REC TEAMS AND END ON THE WEEKEND OF FEB. 26TH; THE
COMPETITIVE TEAMS WILL PLAYOFF THE WEEKEND OF FEB. 26TH. Teams
are expected to be available to play on the days and dates indicated. Teams
are selected based on the total number of wins not winning percentage. Ties
in the final standings are broken by comparing head-to-head outcomes, then
strength of victories, and if all else fails by a simple coin flip. Playoff
pairings will be calculated AFTER THE FINAL WEEKEND OF REGULAR-SEASON PLAY
and all captains will be notified of the results as soon as possible by e-mail
correspondence. Remember any team that forfeits a regular season game
regardless of its final record may be excluded from the playoffs.
