Welcome
to the second floor.
Adjacent to the stairs or elevators are two large oak doors that provide
entry to the historical Robert H. Kiphuth trophy room. Once inside
you will observe oak trophy cases hand carved by the celibrated wood
carvers of Oberammergau, Germany.
Located
in these trophy cases are footballs of games vs. Harvard and Princeton
dating as far back as the 1800's.
For the Baseball fan are baseballs that are marked with
the game, year, opponent and score of important games in Yale's history
again dating as far back as the 1800's. One can also see memorabilia
of former
coaches
Smokey Joe Wood and Ethan Allen, former President of the United States
George Bush and a photo of Babe Ruth. In the crew section is a uniform
that dates back to 1860, as well as a keel, photos and banners of
Yale's glorious history of crew competition. Also among the treasures
are numerous championship banners, medals and other memorabilia
from
as far back as the 1880's commemorating Yale's dominance in track
and field.
A new section is presently being opened which will proudly
display the women's success in Yale athletics. One of the featured
items is a complete display of former Nellie Elliot award winners
which signifies the top female athlete at Yale.
At the rear of the main lobby. Opposite the trophy room
is the towel desk. At the towel desk you can borrow (in exchange for
a valid Yale ID) sports impliments and exchange used towels.
